World Darts Championship: Day 7 Evening Session Preview

By Ryan Skidmore

Mervyn King vs Danny Baggish

Mervyn King has only qualified for 2 major tournaments this year and his performance hasn’t been the best throughout, but he will still look to stage a run at the biggest one of the year. King faces Baggish who played well against Matt Campbell, averaging just under 93 and will have a game on his hands but I think King will just have the scoring power to create enough opportunities to beat the Gambler.

Prediction: King 3-1 Baggish

Bets: King to win and hit most 180’s - 5/4

Gabriel Clemens vs William O’Connor

O’Connor beat Beau Greaves well in the first round averaging around 94 and I think that will be enough to beat the German Giant. Clemens has slipped in the rankings due to his lack of long runs in major tournaments this year but is still a smart operator, one who can hit 180’s for fun when on a going day too. I’ll side with the Irishman to edge Clemens but will stick in the match odds market.

Prediction: Clemens 2-3 O’Connor

Bets:

O’Connor to win - 8/11

O’Connor to win 3-2 - 4/1

Michael Van Gerwen vs Lewy Williams

Lewy Williams proved me wrong against Neils Zonneveld and was impressive in a 3-0 win, showcased by his smart doubling stats, but he will have to improve again to get close to giving Van Gerwen anything to think about based off MVG’s stellar campaign. He has the highest seasonal average, has won 10 titles in the process including 4 major’s and I fancy him to win his 4th World Title this year too.

Prediction: Van Gerwen 3-0 L Williams

Stephen Bunting vs Leonard Gates

Stephen The Bullet Bunting has waltzed his stuff at Ally Pally multiple times and will be confident of making a dominant start to his Worlds when facing Leonard Gates later. Gates averaged 81 when battling past Nentjes and will need to improve markedly to get close to Bunting who is in search of making his first major final. Bunting is priced up a bit bigger than expected in the whitewash market and looks a more than worthy bet at the odds.

Prediction: Bunting 3-0 Gates

Bets: Bunting to win 3-0 - 7/4

Treble:

King to win & hit most 180s; O'Connor to win; Bunting to win 3-0 @ 8.62/1
