World Darts Championship: Day 3 Evening Preview

By Aidan Smyth

Meikle vs Ashton

Meikle has only met Ashton twice and they have a win apiece so this should be fairly tight. Meikle’s A-Game is very good but if he isn’t on song he can be very up and down. Meikle is clearly the better player but 1/5 flatters him massively and I wouldn’t be shocked to see Ashton pick up a set or two. I fancy Meikle to win the game but in a tight affair, with Ashton having some joy.

Ashton to hit most 180’s - 17/5

Meikle to win 3-1 - 11/5

Menzies vs Portela

Menzies had a fantastic Players Championship recently, beating Josh Rock before giving eventual winner MVG a scare. Portela has been in pretty poor form of late, losing his last 4 games and I expect that to continue here. I’m backing Menzies to hammer Portela and cruise into round 2.

Menzies to win the match treble - 2/1

Menzies to win 3-0 - 7/4

Rock vs Justicia

Probably the most anticipated Ally Pally debut in years comes tonight with young superstar Josh Rock taking on Jose Justicia. The majority expect this to be a formality and Rock to set up a round 2 classic with Callun Rydz, but Justicia isn’t to be taken lightly. He has taken some big scalps on the tour this year, but on the biggest stage Rock should just be too good, and I expect Rock to set up that classic round 2 tie.

Rock to win the match treble - 18/25

Rock to win 3-0 - 4/6

Van Den Bergh vs Ilagan

Ilagan pulled off a big surprise yesterday beating Rowby John Rodriguez to set up this clash, but he failed to hit a maximum so that gives the feeling that the prolific 180 hitter Van Den Bergh will cruise that market. With Wright’s sub par performance on the opening night, Dimi will want to send a warning with a good performance and I expect an easy win.

Van Den Bergh to win the match treble - 8/13

Van Den Bergh to win 3-0 - 21/20

Van Den Bergh & Rock to win the match treble - 19/20
