Snooker: Shoot Out Preview

The lottery of the snooker game is here, one of the most entertaining events to watch as a spectator, and almost certainly the hardest event as a punter. I’ve had a brief look through and picked out a couple of long shots to follow through the tournament.

The time element of the shoot out is what makes it so interesting, so players who like to take on their shots, rather then being caught up in safety battles is preferable. Lisowski stands out in this regard at 33/1. Jack has had a steady start to 2023, he was unlucky to lose a long, tight affair against Allen in the Grand Prix quarter finals, and reached the semi finals of the masters the week before. This is really promising form coming into a tournament that should, on paper, suit his style of play.

My second dart, for similar reasons is Thepchaiya Un-Nooh, who is one of the quickest players around. While the clock ticking down may unnerve some players, Thepchaiya certainly isn’t one that will be fazed by it. He has had a disappointing start to the year, losing in the first round of both the Welsh Open qualifiers and the Grand Prix, but some of the stuff he played in the latter was promising and his style is tailor made for this event.

My final stab in the event is found at 80/1 in most places and that’s the Welshman Jamie Clarke. Clarke isn’t the most consistent of players, which is why he isn’t seen at the back end of many tournaments, but his A Game is good enough to beat anyone on his day, as shown when beating Mark Williams in the UK Championship. Someone with that level of ability on their day could be extremely dangerous in a tournament like this, and if he starts running hot, he could massively outrun his 80/1 price.

Picks:

Thepchaiya Un-Nooh - 28/1

Jack Lisowski - 33/1

Jamie Clarke - 80/1
