Skidmore's Selections - Saturday 15th July Tips

By Ryan Skidmore

Ascot

13:45 – King’s Lynn 9/2 1pt win

KING’S LYNN has everything in his favour today back at Ascot where he has lots of form over both 5f and 6f, with the likely scenario being that he is drawn well in stall 18 as high numbers are usually favoured especially when there are underfoot conditions, there was already signs of this yesterday at the meeting too.

The royal runner doesn’t have a lot in hand from a mark of 107 but he might not need to here, he does however have Harry Davies taking 3lb off his back. The more important thing is the likely strong pace to aim at and some promising runs of late, both at Chester and in the Wokingham at the royal meeting, it would be a surprise if he isn’t involved at the back end of this valuable handicap.

York

15:10 – Sea The Casper 11/2 1pt ew

I thought that Simon & Ed Crisford’s gelding was mightily impressive at Lingfield when he destroyed his rivals at Lingfield on the eve of Royal Ascot. He travelled like a dream before readily extending up the straight, eventually winning by 4 & ¾ lengths.

The time he clocked that day was a good one and this lightly raced 4-year old could be on a swift upwards curve and if he takes to the surface at the Knavesmire today he will be a huge danger to all of his rivals under a penalty as he is 4lb well in at the weights.

Newmarket

16:00 – Awaal 5/1 2pt ew

Conditions have turned in the favour of the Crisford’s horse over the last 24 hours and everything looks set for a big run from AWAAL in this year’s edition of the Bunbury Cup.

He has kept improving since his 3-year-old campaign and started the season by finishing 2nd at Doncaster in the Lincoln, and most recently finished 3rd in the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot.

He does have a run in between where he finished last, but he wasn’t beaten far at Longchamp and the run of the race wouldn’t have suited him. He is much better judged on his form in big field handicaps and despite a drop in trip to 7f today, the underfoot conditions should level that out and I think he is a big player as long as the high draw does not go against him.

Ascot

16:05 – Struth 4/1 1pt win

STRUTH ran a very sound race just last week in a competitive handicap at Haydock last time and will be happy to move into calmer waters today at Haydock.

He only really has one blot in his copybook and that was at Royal Ascot when he was way too close to the pace in the King George V handicap, with that in mind I would put a total line through that.

Prior to that, Charlie Johnston’s horse only found Queen’s Vase 2nd, Saint George, too strong at Doncaster when trying to back up his win at Chester. He proved he coped with underfoot conditions there and I think he can make use of the 3-year-old allowance today and end up proving hard to peg back under Richard Kingscote
