Royal Ascot Day 4 Tips & Previews

14:30 - Fairy Godmother 5/2 2pt win

Fairy Godmother is probably the stand out two-year old of the week for me and I expected her to be shorter than the 5/2 that is available.

This daughter of Night Of Thunder was beaten at Naas on her debut by a sharp type in Sparkling Sea, but she shaped very well that day. She then went back to the same venue and reversed that form, a bit more cosy than the finishing distance suggests.

She did remarkably well to win there considering she came off the pace and had to switch when the pace was lifting. That race has thrown up the last two winners of the Albany and the team have always liked this filly (she was well backed into 4/7 on debut) so I expect she will some stopping under Ryan Moore.

15:05 - Givemethebeatboys 11/1 0.5pt ew

With the scratching of Elite Status I have changed my angle in the Commonwealth Cup and I am now happy to side with Givemethebeatboys at any odds of 10/1 or above.

He looks a solid each way bet to me as he has clearly trained on this year and on the pick of his two-year old form he as good as any of his rivals today.

Both of his efforts when 4th in the Coventry Stakes to River Tiber and when 4th in the Middle Park to Vandeek were strong efforts and with the latter he has shown that he can be effective over the stiff 6 furlongs at Ascot.

Inisherin is priced on a heavy ground defeat of Orne and Vandeek at Haydock, but I’m not sure that form is that strong and a quicker surface against Ascot is a different ball game. I would have Jasour the main danger now in what looks to now be a fairly weak renewal of this race.

15:45 - No Bet

16:25 - No Bet

17:05 - Soprano 16/1 1pt ew

I didn’t think I was going to have a bet in the Sandringham this year until I rewatched Soprano when she finished 3rd at Musselburgh, staying on strongly at the line.

She shaped like a straight mile could really suit her and I don’t think her mark of 100 will stop her chances. There is a case for her to be well handicapped from that mark too, especially if you look back at her two-year old form. Her 3rd place in the Albany and her big effort when 2nd to Fallen Angel in the Sweet Solera standing out.

She opened up at 25/1 which I missed but I am still happy to play her each way at 16/1 each way with six places available as I think she has real upside now stepping up to a mile.

17:40 - No Bet

18:15 - Vantheman 8/1 1pt ew

I was very impressed with the way Jubilee Walk won at York, but I was also very taken by the run of Vantheman who finished 2nd to him.

Kevin Ryan’s horse has improved significantly since returning to 6f and that recent run was so eye-catching. He was slowly away and finished with a real rattle, beating his side of the track by a large margin. There seemed to be a clear bias that day where being far side was an advantage, that was displayed both in that handicap and in the Marygate earlier on the card.

He meets Jubilee Walk on 5lb better terms and is available at a bigger price so he strikes as a very good each way bet at the available odds of 8/1, especially with six places widely available.
