Newmarket Best Bets: Saturday

By Louis Moir

Two standout selections for Saturday across the card at Newmarket.

Racing betting tips: Saturday October 8

Holloway Boy in 14:25 Newmarket Group Three Emirates Autumn Stakes at 3/1 (General)

Naval Power in 15:00 Newmarket Group One Darley Dewhurst Stakes at 7/2 (General)

HOLLOWAY BOY is a 2 year old son of Ulysses who made a somewhat surprising debut when winning at massive odds of 40/1 in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot. In his two starts since, he has finished second on both occasions losing little in defeat. This colt was only 1 ¼ length behind the impressive looking Nostrum in the Group Three Tattersalls Stakes on the Newmarket July course 16 days ago.

5(6) Holloway Boy 26

Age: 2 Weight: 9-3 Jockey: Clifford Lee Trainer: Karl Burke OR: 109

Form: 122

The Karl Burke trained horse has run to a similar level on both starts since winning on debut and with the step up to a mile expected to suit, he is fancied to go close once again. Certainly looks a strong contender in what looks a really competitive little race.

NAVAL POWER has been victorious in all 4 of his career starts so far. This 2 year old son of Teofilo put in a career best when running to a very smart looking level in listed company at Ascot in July. He then had no trouble defying a penalty in a similar race at Haydock last time out and looks a very exciting individual for a yard that has won 2 of the last 3 renewals of this event.

5(6) Naval Power 35

Age: 2 Weight: 9-3 Jockey: William Buick Trainer: Charlie Appleby OR: 110

Form: 1111

His dad Teofilo won this race in 2006 and it is important to mention that when trainer Charlie Appleby had the winners in this race (2019 & 2021), they were both unbeaten going into it. Current Champion Jockey William Buick is also in flying form so that is another plus for this talented colt. Yet another competitive looking race but Naval Power can make it 5-5 here with another big performance expected.
