Horse Racing: Champions Day Preview & Tips

15:05 - Big Rock 15/2 1pt ew

Christopher Head will be hopeful of landing his first winner in the UK today with one of his stable stars BIG ROCK, and he has conditions in his favour to do just that today. This horse has been remarkably consistent this season, finishing 2nd in three G1’s, including a defeat in the Prix Du Jockey Club to future Arc winner, Ace Impact and a defeat in the Jacques Le Marois to five time G1 winning filly, Inspiral.Last time out in the Prix du Moulin, I would say Lemaitre didn’t make enough of use of Big Rock’s stamina which set the race up for him to be beaten by a turn of foot. Big Rock is seen in better light when striding on and taking horses out of their comfort zone and hopefully those tactics are resumed today, and if they are I can see him putting his rivals under serious pressure, especially on ground not optimal for all.

15:45 - Bay Bridge 11/2 2pt ew

I really expected Sir Michael Stoute’s horse to be lining up as favourite to defend his Champion Stakes crown today, but he is available at 11/2 which seems a massive price considering absolutely everything is right for him today.Conditions haven’t been right for BAY BRIDGE this season but today is right up his street and he is coming off the back of an impressive win in the September Stakes and a good run to finish 6th in the Arc a few weeks ago. Conditions are uncertain for both Mostahdaf and King Of Steel so I’m not sure why they are ahead of Bay Bridge in the market and I really cannot see the son of New Bay not in the shake up come the end of the race.

16:25 - Migration 10/1 0.5pt ew

MIGRATION really revels in the mud and will be looking to right a wrong in this race after a luckless passage in last season’s renewal, and the straight track will really suit him today with the rain which has came down over the last few weeks, leaving the ground to be very testing.David Menuisier’s charge was guided to a career best win under Benoit De La Sayette earlier this season in the Lincoln off a mark of 107 at Doncaster and that form has worked our extremely well this season, with Awaal and Baradar especially boosting that form. They reoppose today, along with plenty of intriguing rivals like Docklands, but I think Migration looks the one worth chancing at dougle-digit odds with everything in his favour and the guarantee that he goes well fresh from a break.
