Horse Racing: 7th January Tips

By Ryan Skidmore

Sandown

13.50 - Grey Diamond 11/4 1pt win

Sam Thomas will be hopeful of a big run from GREY DIAMOND who looks to have a lot in his favour today. He has been a pretty consistent horse and has proved ground versatile throughout his career, with his victories ranging on ground from good to heavy.

He made a very promising return at Cheltenham in November when 3rd to future winners in Amarillo Sky and Fugitif. He looked to have every chance then before tiring late on, suggesting he would come on for the run. The handicapper has given him a 2lb rise for that but he still looks fairly treated on his return to Sandown, where he has ran well at on both of his starts.

Newcastle

13:58 - Top Of The Bill 11/4 1pt win

This son of Fame And Glory really improved for a step up in trip at Chepstow last time to open his account under rules. He had showed ability previously but had been doing things wrong, he still did things backwards at Chepstow but seemed to get the hang of it late on and relished the extra distance to allow him to charge up the straight. Jordan Nailor was superb aboard him last time and TOP OF THE BILL has every chance of following up in a similar race from just a 6lb higher mark.

Sandown

15:00 - Ramses De Teillee 6/1 1pt ew 5-6pl

RAMSES DE TEILLEE has been a really good servant throughout his career winning nince races to date. He has proved his liking for testing conditions on multiple occasions and this veteran looked as good ever at Warwick last time when winning a Veteran’s handicap. His latest effort was off the back of a wind operation and if that helps him again today he could be difficult to peg back under Tom Scudamore at a track which favours bold jumpers.

Kempton

20:00 - Shoot To Kill 25/1 0.5pt ew 4pl

This now Robyn Brisland trained horse had been running over the wrong trip for George Scott for most of his career and his new connections have made the most of that. Since moving to George Scott he has won three from seven races, three from six on the all weather, with the even more pressing thing that he is three from fiver over a mile or more.

SHOOT TO KILL has been totally missed by the bookmakers today, probably due to a nothing effort in the Victoria Cup and coming off a big break. However, I think that run is best not judged too harshly and a return to an artifical surface will suit him more. I also believe Kempton’s mile track will suit him even further as he will have a long straight to kick into gear. Another positive is the likely strong pace in the race with Imperial Sands, Sun King and Bear Force One all set to be prominent, this should set the race up perfectly and hopefully Joey Haynes can get a good spin from his mount.
