Horse Racing: 27th December Best Bets

By Ryan Skidmore

Kempton

12:45 - Postmark 11/4 1pt win

Milton Harris has a very good record with juvenile’s and POSTMARK is one he has bought specifically for the reason of going hurdling. Despite being bought for obstacles POSTMARK really showed a touch of class on the flat, working his way to win off a mark of 81 on the flat and running well of 88 in the competitive Racing League. He is the best horse in this race on the level and if he can convert that form to hurdles it will take a nice one to stop him.

Chepstow

13:05 - Red Rookie 5/1 1pt ew 4 places

Emma Lavelle has an unexposed horse who could still be ahead of the handicapper and he is running at a course he has showed good form at before. RED ROOKIE ran in a hot race at Chepstow last year which has churned out winner after winner and he was no different, going onto win stylishly at Hereford. He ended the campaign with a fall in the Arkle when beaten but that was optimistic and he returns today in to a lot shallower waters and must hold each way claims at a minimum.

Leopardstown

13:10 - Chacun Pour Soi 6/4 2pt win

For a horse who has got a lot of stick throughout his career, including from myself, it is fair to say that Willie Mullins’ horse has been deadly on home soil, only being defeated twice, once by A Plus Tard and once by Energumene. The only real blots on his copybook are when going over to England and I think bookmakers have overplayed those runs into his price tomorrow.CHACUN POUR SOI is a very fast horse and a great jumper of a fence when in rhythm and I think he is a class above his rivals tomorrow, I made him an odds on shot so anything bigger than that make him a strong bet.

Wetherby

13:35 - Bass Rock 11/10 3pt win

You won’t see many better chasing debut’s in terms of jumping than BASS ROCK’s at Carlisle last month. The handicapper has hit him with a 7lb rise for that facile success but I think he is up to defying that and he looks one to keep on side with until beaten.

Chepstow

14:50 - Ask Me Early 7/1 2pt ew 6 places

Connections of ASK ME EARLY have had to wait to get to Chepstow with their horse but they have made it there sound this time around. Harry Fry’s gelding was a very progressive novice chaser in the 2020/2021 and also won over hurdles last term before being ruled out with an injury. He made his return at Bangor earlier this month, running a great race to finish 3rd to future Coral Gold Cup winner, Le Milos. That should have set him up perfectly for a tilt at the Welsh National and hopefully this lightly raced sort can make up for lost time. He shapes as if he should relish the stamina test and any rain will not be against him.
