Horse Racing: 14th January Selections

By Ryan Skidmore

Kempton

13.30 - Annsam 9/2 1pt win

When ANNSAM gets into a rhythm he is a hard horse to pass, especially on right handed tracks as he has showed at Ludlow and Ascot in the past. Evan Williams’ horse has potential to dominate this field off a workable handicap mark of 135, just 1lb above his last win over fences and it is likely he will face little pressure for the lead. Testing conditions will be no issue for him and he should be involved at the back end of the race today.

Lingfield

13:45 - Tadreeb 10/1 0.5pt win

Although an absolute hostage to fortune TADREEB is an extremely well handicapped horse especially when tackling an artificial surface that he relishes. He was unlucky loser last time over course and distance when not getting the right gaps but he has the potential to bolt up off this mark if things drop right. There is potential for a pace collapse in this race which would suit him down to the ground but he is definitely a win only proposition.

Kempton

14:40 - Dubrovnik Harry 15/2 1pt ew 6pl

In what looks a very competitive renewal of the Lanzorate Hurdle I am willing to take a chance on DUBROVNIK HARRY for trainer Harry Fry. He is still very unexposed and is reverting back to hurdles following one attempt over fences at Exeter earlier in the season and his shrewed trainer will have had this race in mind following that run. He ran a really good race when well fancied for the EBF Final at Sandown last season to finish 3rd and he probably should have got a lot closer as he was held up way too far off the pace before finishing strongly. The handicapper put him up 3lb for that effort but that form is strong and I feel he could still be very well in off a mark of 128.

Warwick

14:25 - Moon Hunter 12/1 0.5pt ew

Henry Daly’s horse is 2-2 over hurdles since moving from the point to point scene and I have been impressed with the way he has been going out against his business. He won quite stylishly at Wetherby on debut in a race that has worked out quite well and then showed a great attitude to grind down Theatre Man at Doncaster, defying a penalty in the process.

Everything about MOON HUNTER suggests he will be better over further so the step up to 2m 5f should suit and testing ground shouldn’t be too big of an issue. There is plenty of pace in the race on paper so hopefully Heskin gets a nice sit off the gallop and he can outrun his morning odds.

Warwick

15:00 - Volcano 16/1 1pt ew

Sheila Lewis’ horse has really took to the Midlands venue, winning all four of his races at Warwick. I have had this race in mind for him for a few years now so am really excited to see what he can do against some classier horses, despite being out of the handicap. He has no stamina doubts and will hopefully be set out prominent under Ben Jones who has ridden him to all of his victories around here. I am really hopeful that VOLCANO will run a big race and cause an eruption while I’m in the Tirf Moor cold!
