Glorious Goodwood: Race Previews

Your Guide to Tuesday's Racing Action: The Pools

13:40 - Goodwood - Handicap Competitive stuff to start the card, Raasel seemed to benefit from the application of cheekpieces last time out when finishing a respectable 4th at Ascot and should go well again here and has to go on the shortlist. Lord Riddiford hasn't been in the best form of late but he has won this the past two years and cannot be dismissed. While Vintage Clarets finished a place in front of Raasel at Ascot last time out and is another must for the shortlist. Though it is tough to completely rule any of these out.

14:15 - Goodwood - British EBF 40th Anniversary Maiden Stakes Array finished a good second on debut and the horse that finished third in that race won a class 2 event at Ascot over the weekend and he should improve and may well do better now, with Oisin Murphy a positive booking too. Alaskan Gold did well to finish third on debut behind a potentially smart one and this Kodiac colt should improve from that run. While Union Island also finished second on debut and is another who is open to improvement and shouldn't be dismissed.

14:50 - Goodwood - Chesterfield Cup Handicap Eagle's Way was only just denied the five timer last time out and is still relatively lightly raced and holds solid claims of getting back on track here from an unchanged mark. Millebosc was far from disgraced in a heritage handicap at York last time out and is very much one to consider here. while Outbreak was far from his best at Royal Ascot last time out and it would come as no surprise to see him get back on track here. 15:25 - Goodwood - Nicholson Gin Vintage Stakes (Group 2) Plenty with chances here, Haatem finished second in a G2 last time out beaten only by a potentially classy horse and pulled clear of the third that day and warrants plenty of respect here and he’s a big player. Iberian made a successful debut and was eased close home and there could be plenty more to come from him and he is highly respected in his follow up bid. While Thunder Blue finished in front of Mountain Bear in a G2 last time out and heads the dangers.

16:00 - Goodwood - Lennox Stakes (Group 2 A cracking looking field, Kinross finished a very respectable third behind Shaquille last time ut in the G1 July Cup and that confirmed he's still in great form and he could be hard to beat here. Isaac Shelby was a respectable 4th in the St James's Palace Stakes G1 last time out and the drop in trip could play to his strengths and looks a big player. While Audience is looking for the hat trick and probably wont be far away if replicating his most recent effort.

16:35 - Goodwood - Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup Stakes (Group 1) (British Champions Series) Another cracking looking field, Courage Mon Ami won the G1 Gold Cup at Royal Ascot beating Coltrane and he looks capable of building on that again and should be able to confirm the running with Coltrane and is the one to beat in his bid for a five timer. Coltrane wont go down without a fight and is sure to give another good account of himself and is a big danger. While Eldar Eldarov wasn't at his best in the Gold Cup last time out and a return to form here is not out of the picture and has to be respected.

17:05 - Goodwood - Fillies' Handicap Stormy Sea was last seen finishing 6th in listed company but much better can be expected here now stepping into handicap company and she still remains with potential. There are plenty of dangers though, with Rowayeh looking to land the hat trick after beating a listed winner last time out for which she's been raised 5lb and the stalls draw hasn't been kind to her either but she is respected nonetheless. While Royal Dress won a handicap at Haydock last time out and while this is tougher on paper she is tough and shouldn't be dismissed.

17:35 - Goodwood - British EBF Fillies' Handicap Kitai has steadily improved this year and comfortably landed a class 2 event at Pontefract last time out and while she has been raised 7lb for that success she looks set to make a bold bid for the hat trick. Funny Story has contested higher grade races than this and doesn't look badly treated and should go well for a yard in good form. While Candle Of Hope was far from disgraced in the Sandringham Stakes at Royal Ascot last time out and this does look easier and is a must for the shortlist.
